Gear up for the LoftPAC Officer Elections

A message from LoftPAC President, Pari Cariaga:

Ever wanted to be me?  How about Chuy?  Well if you do, that’s a little creepy, but if you ever wanted our LoftPAC positions, now is your chance.  Talk to Mrs. Hestwood now to get on the ballot for next year’s LoftPAC officers.

What positions are available, you ask?  Great question!  Five officers make up the board, currently: president (moi), vice president (Matt), secretary (Lexi), special events planner (Katherine), and historian (Chuy).

What do these jobs entail?  Another fabulous question!

  • As PRESIDENT, my job is to work with Mrs. Hestwood to set the agenda for the monthly meetings and to oversee the other officers and their tasks.
  • The job of  VICE PRESIDENT is to help the president as well as working with Spotlight and the Thespian Society to find out how Loft Stage students can get involved with those organizations.
  • If you’re good at taking notes, then SECRETARY (or clerk if you are male) might be the job for you.  Duties include taking the minutes at the meetings and then posting them on the website.
  • Like to party?  Consider running for SPECIAL EVENTS PLANNER.  If you are elected to that position, you will create LoftPAC sponsored events, help organize community volunteer opportunities, and work with the president and vice president to plan the end of the year banquet.
  • The last but certainly not least job is HISTORIAN.  The historian takes pictures throughout the year at theater events and compiles all the images into an end-of-year slide show.

Think you could be good at any of these positions?  If you want to be an official leader next year, talk to Ms. Hestwood ASAP!  And as always, if you have questions feel free to contact any of the officers.

Inver Hills will host its second annual Fine Arts Festival on April 18, 19 and 20, 2013, with more than 40 sessions presented by the college’s Art, English, Music and Theatre departments.

Participants can attend glass fusing, acting and flash fiction workshops; sit as a model in the portrait photo booth; view improv performances, student-directed one-act plays and a student film project; how to play steel drums; and much, much more. The event also includes a solo song contest, concerts, and lectures and demonstrations from visiting photographers, artists and authors.

The Fine Arts Festival is free and open to all, however some sessions require preregistration. REGISTER

The highlight of February was the Thespian Festival, which took place on the 17th and 18th.  On the first day, The Big Meal took the stage in the One-Act competition and won first place!  Along with bragging rights, the cast and crew now have the opportunity to perform their show at the International Thespian Festival in June in Lincoln, Nebraska. On the second day, Katherine Spicuzza and Naomi Ridley performed solos, and Mandy Durose and Pari Cariaga performed a duet for NIES (National Individual Event Showcase).  NIES gives students the opportunity to perform in order to receive constructive criticism.  If a person receives three superiors, they are given the opportunity to perform at the International Festival.  Katherine was able to wow the judges with her rendition of “Gimme, Gimme” from Thoroughly Modern Millie and now has the chance to sing in Lincoln.  Bravo Katherine!  The Thespian Festival is a great place to learn more about the areas of theater you enjoy the most, but also to expose yourself to something new.  If you didn’t get to attend this year, make sure to go next year.

Lettering Policy

In order to earn an East Ridge letter in theatre, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Participate in each of the three main-stage productions in some capacity (e.g. acting, technician, set construction, ushering, etc.).
  2. Earn a bear minimum of ten Thespian points for East-Ridge-related theatre activities (see details above about point allocations).
  3. Complete at least ten set construction hours in the East Ridge scene shop. This total is inclusive of individual production requirements.

Please use the above Google form to input participation as that documentation will be used to track lettering as well.
