Peter and the Starcatcher

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

All cast please meet at 3:30pm tomorrow in the theatre for our first rehearsal. If you were not cast, please consider joining the technical crew (i.e. lighting, sound, set, costumes, etc.). Wizard of Oz Auditions!

July 31, 2023

Audition Details:

Auditions will take place in-person in the Loft Stage on Monday August 28th from 6-9pm or on Tuesday, August 295h from 4-7pm. There will be a singing, dancing, and acting portion. Please dress for movement. Auditioners need only come to one day of auditions.

Callbacks will be Wednesday, August 30th from 5-10PM.

There will be a first cast read-through on Thursday, August 31st. Regular rehearsals will begin Tuesday, September 6th.

“Follow the yellow brick road in this delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale, featuring the iconic musical score from the MGM film. The timeless tale, in which young Dorothy Gale travels from Kansas over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz, continues to thrill audiences worldwide.

This RSC version is a more faithful adaptation of the film. A more technically complex production, it recreates the dialogue and structure of the MGM classic nearly scene for scene, though it is adapted for live stage performance. The RSC version’s musical material also provides more work for the SATB chorus and small vocal ensembles.” (Concord Theatricals)

Please note: All ethnicities and genders are welcome to audition with particular encouragement to Black, Indigenous, AAPI, People of Color and Trans artists.The Loft Stage employs color-conscious and gender imaginative casting for all roles, as culturally appropriate to the telling of the story. Even if you do not see yourself directly reflected in the roles/shows, please feel welcome to submit your audition.

Any role can be played by a person of any gender. Some characters may be male or female presenting, but the performer cast can be any gender.

Floats & Floats!

Saturday, August 19th 9:00am-12:00pm

Join us as we kick off the 23-24 theatre season! We will work together to build our Woodbury Days parade float and enjoy root beer floats afterward.

Meet in the scene shop – enter through the black box doors. Wear closed-toe shoes and painting clothes. Bring a friend – all are welcome, especially new Lofties!

– Set Construction –

All are welcome and encouraged to lend a hand in the scene & costume shops. Refer the Loft Stage calendar to shop days/hours. Parents, guardians, and students are all welcome to drop in for as little or as long as they are able! We ask that folks wear closed-toe shoes, paint clothes, and tie back loose hair for safety purposes. No experience required.

– Floats & Floats –

All are welcome to join us for ice cream floats as we build our float for the upcoming Woodbury Days parade. Floats & Floats begins at 9am and concludes at noon. Wear work clothes – come for the whole time or whenever you’re free. This a great chance for incoming Lofties to meet staff and students.

– Woodbury Days Parade –

The Woodbury Days parade is Sunday, August 20th. We’ll meet outside the scene shop the morning of the parade. We will carpool over to the parade lineup and will march in the parade as a way to encourage the community to come see and support our season.

– Wizard of Oz Auditions –

Auditions for our fall musical, The Wizard of Oz, will take place August 28-31st. More details to come!

– Drama Club (LoftPAC) –

LofPAC, or the Loft Performing Arts Community, is East Ridge High School’s drama club. All are welcome! We traditionally meet the first Friday of every month right after school in the theatre. LoftPAC attends theatre workshops, sees plays & musicals, plans social gatherings, and more! Our first LoftPAC meeting is Friday, September 8th.

– Tech Crew Meeting –

Interested in working on tech crew? Join us for an informational session and to learn about the many technical theatre opportunities there are here at East Ridge. Lighting, sound, set construction, scenic painting, costume crew, video crew, and more! The tech crew meeting will take place immediately following the LoftPAC (drama club) meeting (9/8) in the choir room.
